Description
The agamous bearded one belongs to the vast class of the reptiles (approximately 8.000 species), appeared with Carboniferous between - 345 and - 280 million years. The first representative of this class would be Hylonomus which, while being freed from the aquatic environment by laying eggs with hard shells, marked his separation with the class of the Batrachians. The class of the Reptiles will be divided into subclasses during the Mesozoic one (- 225 and - 190 million years). The subclass to which Pogona belongs is the subclass of Lépidosauriens. This subclass includes/understands specimens having a cranium known as `diapside', i.e. with two temporal openings on each side. The subclass of Lépidosauriens will give the order of Squamates to Jurassic between -190 and -135 million years. This order includes/understands the whole of the reptiles which change skin periodically (which is scaled or which moults) thus including the snakes and the lizards. The agamous bearded one, finally, belongs to the family of Agamidés. This family is characterized by the fact that the tail is not detached and that the establishment of the teeth is of type acrodonte (teeth established with the top of the jaws) in opposition to the pleurodonte type (teeth established with the level of the internal edge of the jaws). This family is represented by 325 species and is confined in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.
