Description

"...I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain,
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain" ...
                                 America, 'Horse with no name'

I couldn't help thinking of this fabulous song by America when I got closer to this Icelandic horse, last summer...In passing, the ancestors of the Icelandic Horse were celtic and germanic ponies, which were brought to Iceland in the middle of the 9th century. Since the 12th century there haven't been any horses imported to the island.

With its special very comfortable gait, the tolt, and its stamina it makes the perfect companion for long rides alone or in a group with many horses and riders. Icelandic Horses safely manage even difficult terrain, without stumbling. The rider can completely rely on his horse and enjoy the beauty of nature. Icelandics are strong, sturdy and spirited, but if they're well trained, they are good horses for children, handicapped people and beginners. The Icelandic Horse is a working horse, used for transport and travelling over rough volcanic terrain and mountains, and even through the glacier rivers of Iceland, where no roads or bridges existed until the late 19th century.

Thank you very much for your comments and visits to my last Autumn photo. Since I last uploaded it, I have also gathered some of my Bryce works in a video montage you'll be able to watch at this address:

Ces chevaux islandais me rappellent de belles haltes de notre voyage. Un cadrage surprenant qui sied bien à ce type de situations. Bravo Bonne semaine.

J'aime beaucoup la coiffure hippy de ce cheval qui m'évoque le jeu, lorsque ma fille était enfant, de ces "petits poneys" en plastique dont ilassablement les gamines coiffaient la crinière. J'aurais cadré un peu autrement mais il fallait saisir l'instant et c'est une image sympa.

What a fabulous creature! I haven't ridden in years but I would certainly ride this beautiful horse! The hair is quite interesting and he/she exudes tenderness. The song fits the animal well, haven't heard it for awhile but I have it so must listen now...thank you as always for the great image and the lesson as well!
