Under the Hunter Moon A chilled breeze stirs the silken grass, Their lingering sigh stitching the air with sound The tap, tap, tapping of bending branches, Cricket song gone silent--- He lifts his mighty head, His sprawling antlers graze the starlit sky, Courting dance is done for this shaded eve A new scent, an unnamable rustle He drinks in gulps of air. Crouched beneath the underbrush So attuned, each twitch, each flinch Of the silhouetted prey Chronicled without thought. The hunter erupts from his hiding place The wild hunt begun.
