Description

Saturday evening I was at a public program for the local raptor center, in the woods at an arboretum. Sun had set and I needed flash for photos. Well, by accident this shot was taken without the flashgun turned on. This is my Halloween Owl.. a barred owl, beautiful in full view and a terror to a prey she would find in the hunt. That is, if this lovely owl could hunt with only one good eye. She cannot. She is a fine and beautiful bird, living her life in education for others. When she did hunt, before the first of two incidents with automobiles, would you guess the prey got even this view? Likely not even that much warning.

Awww...It makes me sad to think that the hand of man created her plight. Such a wonderful creature. Thanks for the post. She is awesome.

Perfect lighting for her to keep you in her sights - one eye or two, I bet she is honed in on you for sure. Fabulous look at her as she would be seen in the wild - if these lovelys were seen that often. :-)

Huge effect, you should try to turn off your flashgun more often : D It gives like a very soft sketch aspect. Moody and impressive. Good photo.
