Description
Apache Pass, Bascom Camp, Butterfield Overland.
Cutoff Canyon, Apache Springs, Siphon Canyon.
Ruins of a Stage Station, the 1st Ft Bowie and the 2nd.
This small section of land is rich in history.
Cowboy and Indians and the 2nd Calvary
1st the Overland Mail route, then Fort Bowie (1862-1894).
Their job?
Geronimo and his band of Apaches.
The fort ceased in 1894, troops withdrawn, but the spirits stayed.
A graveyard, a half buried buckboard in the sand.
Half frames, adobe walls becoming sand once more.
The parade ground is brush covered, no Cavalry parades.
A snake or two and a few lizards take that duty now.
There are 2 Cemetery's there.
The 1st is the last one from the 2nd Ft Bowie
The 2nd one is overgrown and hard to find.
Spend a night at Ft Bowie, under a full moon.
When the wind picks up you can hear.
The sands accost, the brush shimmy's, Moonlight dances.
And the spirits move.
Indian spirits, pioneer spirits, maybe even animal spirits.
Nobody knows.
But many say the spirit of the 2nd Cavalry is still there.
If you are lucky, maybe you can see them..!!
Ft Bowie is/was located in the center of this DEM.
