Description

Awww, the nice friendly cute and cuddly alien wants to come say hi to the new colonist arrivals. Ain't it sweet? Alien and SGM Explorer Figures set up as individual Poser .pz3 files, then imported into Vue. Lights added manually (with a nod to Darth Mojo for the lesson on lighting) Rendered Broadcast quality, landscape 1600x1000, no postwork. I'm not too sure about this one, a lot of the metalwork seems to have come across with an odd material appearance. It doesn't make a difference if I import using the Poser Shader or not. I decided the image didn't really need any postwork, anything I could do to it would likely detract from the cinema-quality the image seems to have. I did two versions, one with auto-exposure and this one, with auto-exposure off. I'll post the other one, which has a more striking volumetric effect on the back spotlight, tomorrow (can only post one a day it seems).

Great use of lighting and the angular compositon really works nicely

I saw the other version first, but I think I like this one better. I think the metal looks pretty good, although the rusted/corroded spots could use a little bumpmapping IMO. Importing poser materials to Vue can be a pain in the neck, especially metals. Whenever I use an object from Poser, I import it in the default starting scene, adjust the materials the way I want, then save is as a VOB. Not only does it look better, but for some reason it doesn't bog Vue down as much. As far as metal goes, try adjusting the reflections to get a better look, especially for newer metal. If it starts to look too "silvery", go to the effects tab and adjust the metal reflections level. (I'm not sure exactly what that effect is called and I'm at work at the moment so I can't check. The other thing you can try here to make the rust look better is to mix the metal material with the rust naterial that comes with vue, and use the bitmap that came with the vehicle to drive the mix function.
