Description

The Sultan Mosque was built by Sultan Hussein between 1824 to 1826. A hundred years later it was replaced by a magnificent gold-domed building, the current mosque. Sultan Mosque is the largest mosque in Singapore and is located in Arab Street, the Muslim Center of Singapore. This picture was taken in January 1996 and later scanned. Thank you for viewing and commenting on my recent uploads. Singapore was a very interesting place to visit, much ethnic and cultural diversity. British, Malay, Chinese, and Indian cultures make this city a melting pot. Singapore is a city state. It is tightly controlled by the government. Upon each entry, whether by land from Malaysia or sea from Indonesia, or by air from anywhere else, one has to fill out a form. On top of the form, in red it states 'Mandatory Death Penalty for the Possession or Use of Drugs', or words to that effect. A very sobering message. Singapore is very safe and clean, but no jay-walking, chewing gum or spitting, Sig..

I have never been near a Mosque. There is one in Toledo I see from the freeway. I think I am further away from this than even in 1973.

Mosques and Orthodox churches share such beautiful domes. The shapes seem to defy logic. This is an excellent pov, also.
