Description
Horton Mill Covered Bridge, Oneonta, Blount County, Alabama. This 220 foot Town Lattice truss bridge was built in 1934 across the Calvert Prong of the Little Warrior River. At 70 feet it is the highest covered bridge over any US waterway. Horton Mill bridge was in use until Sept. of 2007 when vandals damaged the bridge by using a chain or cable and tow hook or hitch to try and remove roof supports. No repairs have been made as of yet and it is rumored that when/if repairs are made the bridge will be reopened to foot traffic only. Taken 7/30/08....repairs had not been made yet.

What a lovely old bridge - such a shame that some idiot vandals felt the need to try and destroy it :-(

It's one of 3 covered bridges in Blount County, the other 2 are still in use. I have no clue why someone would want to destroy history.
