Description

My dear Liébo; Since we went to the castle to watch the approach of the Autumnal Omen, I've felt a hollow ache gnawing my ribs. It is normal, I suppose, that I would miss our old fraternal affections. It seems that a whole age has passed since you left. I am sure that neither of us are the same people. We are brothers, yes, but there is a change. I suppose that you'd been changing since before you left for your studies, but there is still a part of me that understands you, and I hope that there is something in you that understands me, still. As you know, Mother says that the city will be a ship-wreck for you. She sees ill omens (of the non-meteorological sort) almost every day. Since you stepped onto the train with our memento-trinkets hastily pressed into your hands, Mother has fallen prey to flares of mind-shattering worry and depression. She is afraid for you. I tell you this, not to trouble you, and please, Liébichko, forgive me if I do. I'm writing to you because we aren't the only ones changing. Your studies are important, and speaking for myself, I'm proud that I can tell my friends that my brother will be an aeromancer, and will spot Omens from the balconies of one castle or another. You're the bright light in our family, and I'm sending these words to you for that reason. I know that things must be harder in Ħradlinsk, and I can't imagine how life must be there, but I'm proud of you. Everyone is. Things here are as they'll always be. It is cold. The trees are yellow and orange, orange and red. The river is full of fishermen, and work at the factory is boring as usual. I see Jāolyn regularly. He sends his regards. Mother sends her love, though I'm sure that mine isn't the only letter you've received. There isn't much more to say, and so I will stop. I'm not so accustomed to writing letters, but I'll get better. I look forward to the day you return home for Break. I'll be proud to drink with the man you're becoming, and I'll be equally proud to call him my brother! You'll have to tell me everything about your studies and about Ħradlinsk. I look forward to every moment of that. With love, your brother, Líesh **** The old mailbox in the image accompanying this text is one of the pieces of Český Krumlov history, in a sense. It is mounted on the door of a crumbling mound of a building...probably the unused, rear sections of the Eggenberg brewery. During the Communist Era, Český Krumlov fell into extreme disrepair. Renovation is an every day element of life, especially in the old center, but in many ways, there's still a long way to go. **** As always, thank you for viewing and reading, and hopefully you've enjoyed this dip into an alternate world. On another note, I hope your Halloween is going well!
