Description
In Italy, Nov 2 lies the commemoration of the dead. It's the day when you go to the cemetery to lay flowers, preferably chrysanthemums, on the graves of our loved ones!
In Sicily, this day was called "The Feast of the Dead."
When I was a little girl... centuries ago... Nov 1 we went to bed early to make sure that our "dead" hide toys... dawn of 2, all children went in search of toys and sweetmeat... when they found, it was a feast!
Then we went with the parents to the cemetery to thank the dead for their gifts... this was a way of getting kids to understand that we are not afraid of death and to respect the dead!
Now this "feast" is no longer in use, it was supplanted by Halloween that is taking over not only in Sicily but also throughout Italy!
Have a great Sunday! :)

We do the same thing on the last monday in the month of May - Memorial Day. No toys or treets involved but be do plant flowers around the family graves and for our veterans. Your photo shows it well.
