DAZ Studio render, with pwToon, DoF and IBL plugin. First picture (IBL just neutral light) with color correction, second picture (normal) with postwork.

Hmmm... It looks like pwtoon does a good job. I think I like the Poser renders better, though. They looked more cartoonish. When you say the second picture was normal, what do you mean?

Love the render and explanation of how this image was created. This also intrigued me as I have seemed to missed the use of good lightning to achieve manga-like renders. Artists like you should be commended on sharing ideas that makes open source products even better! 5+
