Description
“Humans left this mess,” the pixie said stating the obvious. “They didn’t even try to put out the fire. If a wind comes up, this could burn the whole forest down.” Pixies excel at complaining about things.
“Eri there is not a lot I can do about it,” Sai’leah replied as she continued to examine what remained of the human campsite.
“You’re a blade of the fairy folk. Track them down and kill them,” Eri said. A “blade” of the fairy folk is a polite term for assassin, or as the fairies like to think of them, highly skilled hunters.
“It is not that easy any more,” Sai’leah said. “The human world is coming closer. If this was just one human deep in the forest it wouldn’t be a problem. But, this was a small group. If I kill them other humans will come to investigate. They would bring machines and other kinds of devices that could detect us.”
“You’re still supposed to protect us,” Eri said.
“The coming of the humans is not something I can protect anyone from,” Sai’leah said. “My duty is to hive and home; I only protect the knowledge of our existence.” What bothered Sai’leah the most was the carelessness of the humans. They never treated the environment with respect. She suspected it was because they had lost their connection to the earth. “I will still follow the humans to see where came from. We need to know how close the humans are to our world.”
“They are close enough to burn the whole forest down with one careless act,” Eri said pointing to the remains of the still smoldering fire.
Yes, but are they close enough for us to have to move deeper into the forest?” Sai’leah asked herself more than the pixie.
