Description

There is something tranquil and calming about desolate places,be it remote deserts, northern tundra or high mountain ranges...one can escape the pressures of daily life and get lost in the place. That was my attempt with this image. I decided to push myself again, this time taking Bryce and creating an image as it was originally designed to do...a landscape. However,I wanted to push the limits of the various areas of Bryce, and add to my knowledge of these areas. I created a preset terrain and rendered it in a pitted concrete preset material. Then I added a second channel(B) in the diffuse column, and in this I added a phototexture from cgtextures.com.I held down the shift key and selected both channels in the diffuse column, which combined the two textures. Then I clicked the bump channel in the B channel only, which gave the terrain the phototexture, and increased the bump height to around 35.The lake is a water preset(swamp water),and all I did to this was enter the material lab, click the green button at top left on the "noise"setting and change the texture from 2D to 3D. The sky is a preset Bryce sky(turbulent overcast),but I changed all the settings for cloud colour, sky and skydome colours, haze colour and sunglow,as well as changed the texture to 3D the same way I changed the water texture.I changed the FOV to 100,and tilted the camera for dynamism, and rendered at Premium setting with true ambiance selected. In light of the recent discussions in the Bryce forum as to what constitutes a true Bryce image, there is no postwork except the signature...all items were created in Bryce 6.1. Thanks for viewing and any comments you wish to leave, they are always appreciated!

Very nice "pure bryce" image, and thanks for the explanation of the process. The result of the texture work is great.

I am a true believer that Bryce, when used at its best can really shine on some landscapes. You show that here. Great image, love the tilt as well.

I thought I had already commented on this one, but apparently not. Just wanted to say that the for-ground is amazing, looks like a photo. Great work!
