Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera, hand held image. This is part 3 of a 4 part series showing an encounter between a Sweat Bee and a Carolina Mantid. There were winners and losers, lol. This Sweat Bee and a bunch of his buddies were taking advantage of a spilled soft drink. The Mantid took advantage of the abundance of Sweat Bees in one spot and snagged this unfortunate one off the ground (while the rest continued to get a meal), thus getting a meal also. I took advantage of the situation and got several nice shots. You get to see the results and only this one Sweat Bee was a loser in the encounter, lol. For those interested - I watched my Regional Arts Council exhibition photos being hung yesterday. It was a pretty cool experience. I have been taking digital bug pics for about 4 years but until a few months ago, I had never seen any of them in print form. This exhibition opportunity gave me the impetus to print a select number of them and I was not disappointed with the results. In the process of getting the prints ready for the exhibition, I dry matted them using flat black foam core mats which provided approximately 3-4 inches of a border on all sides. The cost of materials for that was quite a bit more than pocket change but I decided the opportunity was worth the investment and I was quite happy with the results. Yesterday I got to see 21 of my images hanging on the gallery wall and I was more than a little surprised at the results. Although I have looked at most of these digital images countless times, it was always one at a time on the computer screen. As prints, I looked at them one at a time in my hands or on a table or as a few grouped together on the floor. This did not prepare me for the visual effects of having a lot of them arranged on a neutral colored wall at eye level and well lighted. Somehow they now seemed separated from me and I could view them as a unified body of work instead of as just a bunch of individual bug pics. It was an unexpected perspective and somewhat of a surreal experience. In addition to this new personal take on my images, I also was informed that 4 of them had already been sold and the show doesn't even open until tomorrow, lol. All in all, it seems to be a good start to the 2 month long show. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

What fantastic news, Lee! Although I have never exhibited photos, I know that feeling from art exhibitions that I have had or been part of, there is nothing quite like it. I'm thrilled for you! This is another great shot, as we expect!

Fantastic news about the exhibition Lee, I hope you took some pics of them hanging on the wall, maybe you could upload a couple? I am happy for you that some have already sold, but I saw that as inevitable anyhow, I had every faith in you. A trypitch of this Mantid might make a good price as well. Another excellent capture, I like the different pov on this one, again great detail. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
