Description

Hi - thanks for stopping by. This one was quick but FUN! I've been a big dinosaur nut since I was a little kid (hey I'm a boy, right?). I've been buying up Dino products and prehistoric plants since I started with studio, but never had the stones to make a dino image.... until now! Production Credits: DAZ Studio render. Rendered Multipass with compositing in Photoshop. T-Rex by Dinoraul @ DAZ. Plants are "Forest Primeval" from RDNA. 2 DAZ Pterodactyls in the background. Dragonfly came with DAZ Studio. Some plants are from Lisa Botanicals (tropicals and Cinnamon Ferns) also @ DAZ. The ground was done using an MG Heightfield prop, with an image map for the displacement... if you don't have this product check out the product page over at DAZ - it's quite handy for doing quick, detailed groundplanes. I also used some D-Formers to pull up some hills. The ground surface is a combination of pwEffect procdeural moss and a rock texture I picked up somewhere. Color Ramp is your friend! It took me about an hour to rough together the ground plane and shader, entirely inside of Studio. I tweaked the surface settings on each of about 10 forest primeval plants and then used the replicate script to create a whole bunch of trees. Not sure, but there's probably 30-40 ttrees in shot. Sky and outdoor lighting is the upcoming Light Dome Pro 2 from Dreamlight. There is a mini-tutorial on the lighting and compositing of this scene included in the user manual for LDP2. Dreamlight Mood Master was also used for atmospherics. Scene was rendered as seperate sky, ambient light, sky light, sunlight and moodmaster layers and composited in Photoshop. There's a layer of noise and my usual borders and copyright. Thanks for looking and as always I appreciate your comments and critique.

You have got to do more dino images! This is wonderful - the dragonfly is a nice little addition. I take it LDP2 is kind to transparencies? I would never have tried an image like this with so many plants on the original LDP.

this is an incredibly strong and dynamic composition. scrolling down, the head was almost a surprise. nice symmetrical detail in the form of the pterodactyls and the insect. the atmospherics are very subtle, and i think the picture is stronger for it. obvious atmospherics can be overused, and subtlety is often rare in CG. every time i look at it to analyze it further, i just get blown away by the composition, so i feel the need to mention it twice. i'm very impressed by your work with the plants; they flow very naturally but frame the T-rex perfectly. very nice light, and different than the ultra-soft shading D|S renders often have. not that i don't like that (i do), but it's always more difficult and interesting to find a different look and feel. overall, stunning work.
