Knocking at the Door
Listen closely...Can you hear the sound?
Up, up, up, above the trees, skyward bound.
Winging its way on its solitary flight
A soft sigh escaping from the realm of night.
A soul unloosed from this mortal plane
A soul set free at last from pain.
Did you know when it was your final breath?
Did you fear passing into the arms of death?
Do you now see things in a different light
Than you viewed them here in your mortal plight?
Is death final, is it the end?
I don't think so, my absent friend.
Although you are gone from this reality,
I believe you reside in a different dimensionality.
Beyond the reach of pain and death
Where spirits soar and draw new breath.
We only know what we believe,
We'll miss you and our hearts will grieve
Dance above, in the stars so bright
Reside in peace, and walk in light...

I didn't know Dirk the way some of you obviously did, but I believe that his soul must soar in the knowledge of the love he inspired. Perhaps even more importantly, your wonderful dedication must be a great comfort to those he left behind. Again, lovely work Lea.
