Description

Morning all :o) Well last night at the camera club I was shot down in flames by a judge from another club in the monthly competition .I entered 4 mounted pics 2 b/w 2 colour which I thought were at the standard to be entered and was immediately deflated when awarded 5 points out of 30 for each one making my score a club record .The consolation was that there were a few other members with a higher quality of work low marked aswell which made me feel a little better .I now feel a lot less confident about my photography and also more critical of what I have taken to the point where I could just delete the lot as rubbish but seeing as though I`m not a defeatist I will brush this off and try and rebuild my confidence again and also prove this jumped up pratt wrong :o).. I can`nt remember much about this shot ,where it was ect only that it was from the top of the sightseeing bus again .I just liked the way that all the shapes came together . Thanks for looking and take care Mick

A superb pic! The CC judge was possibly jealous, probably narrow-minded about what constitutes a good photo, and most certainly totally incompetent. DONT DELETE ANYTHING! Just because one pompous prick doesn't like your work and makes himself feel good by being unkind is no reason to feel anything other than briefly angry. He probably beats his wife and kicks his dogs as well. Did he have a fat red neck?

Mick, never delete something from your Gallery. There is no reason. I dleted 2 years ago my old gallery because of others jealousy and sh*****talking , but a few days after , when i calmed down, i regret. This is a great capture.

Nice shot Mick and please don't let anyone get you down my friend. Your work is amazing and who knows the reason behind his decision.

Well ... you're pretty cute! ... maybe he didn't want you looking any better than you already do. (You never know why people do what they do.) I love this shot! At first I thought it was a well-done composite of several different fixtures against a neutral background. How amazing, to have all those objects together like that, just waiting for you to go by and shoot them!

Its difficult when something you are proud of does not bring the same level of attention by others. I have that happen in my other art. Sometimes I love the representations I get in my gourd carving and etching only to find it is considered confusing or the intent is lost. I once was asked to create a personalized gourd of a lady's livingroom. She loved the other work she had seen. I asked a hundred times for her preference in color, size, and what sort of carving she felt would go with her home. She just said I should do it as all my work was fascinating. I spent many days carving it and buying things to make up a gourd with a "blessed new beginning" theme in a primitive style (I do most of my gourds in primitive) only to have her rip out the inside decorations and complain that she would have to face the carved front hole to the wall to display it and she wished I had just done some lacing on it and nothing more. I was crushed. So, remember, do what you do for two equal reasons - first, because YOU like it and it comes up to YOUR standards (no one else matters), and second, because you want others to feel what you feel about it. If the second reason doesn't pan out, you still got the first one to hold you up with pride.

First off Mick I agree with PJ. I take pictures to please me, nobody else just me, it is a record of what I have seen with my eyes, nobody else's eye's mine. If I like it, then I may post it or print it out, if somebody else likes it then that is a bonus, if they don't like it then that says to me I must try harder if I want them to like it, but in truth I am not that bothered about if they like it or not, after all it was for me. So don't go deleting things just because one person doesn't like your work. What qualifications did this judge have? Did anybody there get top marks? If so how many drinks did they buy him? Don't let an idiot take you down mate, its just not worth it. You are not a professional photographer, you joined this club a couple of months back to meet people with the same interests as yourself and to try and improve yourself, did anybody from your club think they were that bad? Is it a case of another club trying to belittle a new member that he didn't know? Now to this image, which as a photo is OK but as a place for statues looks overcrowded. I wonder who decided to have four different stuctures and two electric lanterns so close together, I wonder was it on a traffic island? It is a very intruging image Mick I must say. Excellent image of a puzzling situation. Bravo!!!!!

Don't listen to anyone but yourself, Mick--you have an eye of your own and your fotos reflect what important to you. People like that judge have preconceived notions of what's supposed to be good; he wouldn't know a good shot if it hit him over the head. I see fotos here that get pages and pages of comments and they're so boring they almost put me to sleep. I'd rather see something that's different, real and full of life and feeling and that's exactly what your fotos do. I like this a lot, that gold image on top makes it glow and come alive!! You rock, Mick!!

Gosh - Firstly, Andrea took the words right out of my mouth. This pompous AH doesn't even deserve a second thought. I agree with all the other views here... This is a stunning POV. In front of Buckinham Palace if I remeber correctly! Well done Mick! :)

These imbercilic ponces don't know one end of a camera from their ass, I see this kind of crap all the time, whinging twats that think because the sun was high, and one didn't use a flash to take out the harsh shadows it's a downside to the image, then along comes another person that says, "What an awesome study of light and shade", when you dowload the images from your camera to the computer, and something makes you go WOW!, and makes you proud of yourself, then that's good enough for YOU! mate, these tinpot little twats don't even feature in lifes highway, let alone the road to being a photographer...LOL @ Andrea's rant :)
