Description

W.A.S.P., this is not a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant ;o) I presume this a variety of the ICHNEUMONID Wasp's, which I found hanging from a branch of a She-oak pine tree, in my garden. I thought this one was rather unique, what do you think ? Cheers *BB*

Looks like it only has a single pair of wings, so it can't be a wasp. Might be a cranefly or something, though.

I don't know either, but it's pretty...in a picture! Not sure I'd want to be too close to one!

A super macro and a very interesting shape. I've never seen one like this [and hope I never come close to one either] and he is obviously ready to give someone a nasty sting with colouring like that. Well spotted.

Excellent shot, but I don't think this is a wasp, I guess it belongs to the mosquito family...

I wonder if this is some type of moth imitating the look of a wasp- it really does resemble the Ichneumonid you mentioned, but it does not have a tapered waist and the head is bent down and much smaller than a wasp that has mandibles for chewing. Certainly an interesting specimen to capture, and perhaps a rare an unique species- do you know anyone that would be able to positively identify it? Could be a new discover in fact! Wouldn't that be cool?! You could then name it!
