Description

I next hurried down the shore to get downtown and into position to photograph the Milwaukee Art Museum by dawn's light. The lighting was originally pretty flat-- all the whites were a light slate blue-- so I waited and kept taking images every minute as the lighting conditions changed. Here the sun has just cleared the horizon. The shadows are still pretty horizontal. This is the Calatrava Addition that was completed a couple years ago. I've uploaded images of it before. Someone back then asked for a sunrise image of it so here it is, just a little late. See the tall tower behind it? That's actually two recently constructed towers sharing a fairly small base. The two towers are an odd example of class warfare in he Milwaukee skyline. The rear, northern tower-- the two sets of vertical dark green windows flanking a concrete core-- holds condoes costing about $750,000. The foreground, southern tower with the rounded corner and cylindrical top is also condo but these cost ONE MILLION DOLLARS EACH. Jeez..... For a million bucks you can get a nice lakeside house with lots of privacy..... or you can get a three bedroom flat in this thing. I dunno..... I think I'd rather have the open space. And I keep thinking of the folks in either tower who spent way too much to get a luxury flat with a view of..... the other tower! Okay, enough rant. Tomorrow another dawn subject, an about-to-be-commissioned USN warship undergoing final preparations at Milwaukee's lakeside.

Wait 'til all the other towers go up (although the economic situation might slow things down there) - no more pics of the Calatrava from the west. A shame. Very nice pic, regardless - with still just those two glass monsters the Calatrava's shape can stand out crisply. Agree on the towers, but have to admit I wouldn't mind owning one of the upper-floor ones on the southern building. Shame I've not got a million. The view must be magnificent. Looking forward to your USS Freedom pic.
