Description

Thirty-seventh in a series of classic vehicles, captured 9/21/08, at the beautiful Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance, held annually at the beautiful Trump National Golf Club on the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula in overpopulated Southern California. For more information on this event, see my posting for 9/28/08. Taking a break from the daily run of shiny, pristine and pampered automobiles to bring you this old gal, a sporty runabout in its time, but now worn and weary and in dire need of renovation, but still projecting character in its own right. Apparently, the owners don't have the time and/or money to bring this one up to par. I like the oilcan on the firewall. For an extensive history on this auto, go to: http://www.hemmings.com/hcc/stories/2005/10/01/hmn_feature16.html Thankx for the visit on this warm and sunny Saturday.

I have walked in the high mountains where the pines change to larch. This of course is in direct contradiction of the description of larch in the Greek texts where larch was more like we think of cypress except maybe as dense as quebracho, never rotted and could stand up to a ram beak. I can see you have the samne sort of just stepped into the frame issues as I do when you meet one. Talk to an owner and find out he is an investor. He seldom has any interest in problems of a type or how to avoid modernizing when restoring while retaining the useability. Those are for the professional restorers and he prefers to buy one as is in pristine undriven condition. All those workers you and I see are laid off and bought out. Nobody is ever going to change this one again. It's price is an auction issue not one of over the table negotiation with all issues forward.

Great collage :) Perhaps a more realistic view of these old cars?

It reminds me of the movie Murphy's Romance where James Garner drives around in an older car similar to this, and he keeps getting tickets for parking illegally because he wants to keep an eye on his car, who can blame him. Love this series.

Nice shots; is that a place for a hand crank on the front end?

A-1 photos. Two weeks ago I was watching one of the classic car auctions that pop up on TV from time to time. A 100 year old car was auctioned off...it had been recently discovered in an old barn up in New Hampshire (I think). The point was made that now unrestored old cars are being kept that way by certain collectors. Furthemore, the point was made that a car is only original once... consequently, when a car is completely restored it's original state is forever lost. Sounds like why antique pieces of furniture are worth more if they are not refinished. So, your car here may not be all that unusual these days? Bill
