A recurring character from the Ring of Steel, a Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms campaign set in and around Harrowdale. ““Oh hollowed mistress of the night… Beloved lady of loss, free me of this hateful light and embrace this place in thy holly darkness!” Xharvana beseeched, raising her eyes to gloomy night sky. However, her prayer seemed to go unheard, as Selune’s light continued to stream down, seemingly focused on the heart of the ancient ruins. “Please, all mighty dark goddess, do not forsake me, your faithful servant, Xharvana of the Dark Moon, and cloak me in your glorious shadow!” She plead to the heavens. But the silvery light still beamed down upon her. Undeterred, she went back to her preparations, clearing the center of the ruins of leaves and debris. All the while failing to notice the figure that silently crept ever close, hidden in the shadows. Corin had seen her dark form, clearly illuminated in the center of the ruined temple, as he approached, and recognized her Amnish accented voice when she prayed to Shar for darkness. He had almost laughed at her foolishness, but held silent to conceal his presence. He and his companions had clashed with the Dark Moon monk and her evil servants several times, and her arrogance had always proven to be her down fall before. As he hoped it would now! Creeping up the outer stairs of the temple, hidden in the shadows of a partially collapsed wall, he watched her clear the center of the sanctuary, preparing it for some dark, Sharran rite. Although she appeared to be alone, he knew she would still be a formidable foe, mixing a sorceress’ magic with a monk’s martial skills a near match to his own, and, with his companions camped almost a mile away, he was on his own as well. Moving to the now cleared center of the ruins, she turned her dark, but unquestionably beautiful features to the night sky again. “Must I endure this hateful light?” She asked, as if she full expected an answer. Then, sighing in acceptance and disappointment, she drooped her head, as Selune’s light continued to shine upon her, despite the gloom that prevailed outside the ruins. Corin watched intently from his hiding place, readying himself to lunge forward and interrupt the dark ritual he was sure she was about to begin. But he was stunned when he saw her start to strip off her dark garb...” Born in the Amnish city of Keczulla, the daughter of servants of Shar, Xharvana possess a natural gift for the Art (magic) and was raised with in the Dark Moon order. Never knowing a life outside the service of the dark goddess, she is wholly dedicated to her faith and order, seeking Shar’s guidance, and permission, for every act. As deadly as she is alluring, she is cruel, sadistic and evil to her core, but also loyal, unwavering faithful, and true to her every word. Leading a small group of Shar’s servants into the Cormanthor forest in search of magic left behind in the Elven Court and Myth Drannor which they can twist to the dark goddess’s aims, Xharvana and her followers have clashed with the Ring of Steel on several occasions. Although her arrogance and blind faith in Shar has proven to be her weakness, she has yet to be defeated decisively. Thanks for looking... Hope you enjoy!
