Description

One theory is that if the moon exploded it would effect the ocean tides and cause gale force winds. Since there's obviously no tide in the mountains, I went for the winds. Original photo is Mount Timpanogos, Utah. All editing done in Photoshop.

Makes one wonder what happened to Earth after the Moon was thrown out of orbit in "Space 1999." Maybe the people of Moonbase Alpha were the lucky ones... Back in the early 90s there was this crackpot who suggested blowing up the moon would give Earth a mild climate year round. But I digress. This is quite an apocalyptic image. Hopefully this won't actually come to pass.

I love the atmosphere in all your work. This one has that great feeling of terrifying cosmic events unfolding in an uncaring universe - as in Deep Impact. Here we have maybe a deep impact on the Moon - that's the only way the Moon could "explode." There are tides everywhere of course - in the atmosphere, even in the crust and mountains of the Earth, which react measurably to the pull of Sun and Moon... I want to see more!
