There are a lot of qualities about this that i like, use of space, sense of surface texture, staging; very good looking image. What medium is this however?

I played around with a photo of my model in front of a grey background. I wanted to create a dusty, thick and moody look of the fighter who wanted the mercy of the church...

Gorgeous work. The lighting is exceptionally well done. The pose is just perfect and he does look like he is asking the forgiveness of God. Fantastic detail on the intricate mail armour. I too am curious to know what media was used to produce such a piece of work.

This image strikes very true to the era. Killing being a sin against God and man it was difficult for a Christian knight or man at arms to reconcile the bloody acts of his station before the eyes of his creator. Fortunately on November 27, 1095, Pope Urban II in response to 400 years of Muslim expansions and conquest, evoked the Church of Rome's doctrine of absolution declaring; "If those who go thither lose their lives on land or sea during the journey, or in battle against the pagans, their sins will at once be forgiven; I grant this through the power of God conferred on me". With their wounded spirits salved Europe all but emptied itself of fighting men off to do the lords work.
