Description

Preparing for takeoff. I usually like to show aircraft in flight but here's an FG-1D Corsair on the taxiway. I like this view because the size of the pilot provides a point of reference for how big this famous fighter of WWII to the early '50s really is... I have left the image size very large for anyone interested in modeling the details. A zoom will show you what I mean. On my 22" monitor...this image almost fills the screen. I am also using this photo as a setup for a collage I am working on that will show this bird folding it's wings while taxiing towards the audience after landing. Enjoy. Thanks for all your comments. Bill P.S. Apologize for slightly clipping off both ends...this was in August...I'm improving :-)

Thanks Bill, this is indeed an excellent pilot/aircraft reference point. It's so easy to make a pilot to big when rendering images and this shows the sheer size of the aircraft. More like this would be most welcome. Also full size it's fantastic quality.

Wonderful shot Bill. Glad you made the choice to show it on the ground up close and personal. This was the bird that the famed Black Sheep Squadron used in the Pacific. Skipper62

A great shot of just about my favorite (non-jet) aircraft, Bill; and I see it's from the good old CAF, which USED to fly proudly as the Confederate Air Force....

Tupolev, one of the top Russian aircraft designers said, "Ugly planes never fly!" It's a real beauty!

Without a doubt, my favourite prop-driven US fighter! Great photo. The best combat aircraft demand respect from friend & foe alike... and the "ensign eliminator" was definitely one of those planes.

Shades of Major Gregory 'Pappy' Boyington and the Baa Baa Black Sheep squadron in the Pacific theater of war. I didn't realize the F4U Corsair was that large; not as hefty as the P-47 Thunderbolt though. Terrific capture of the formidable aircraft. Love those gull wings.
