Description

Dawn. The new day begins. This captured moment in time is only a few minutes after my previous post was taken, Pre-Sunrise. That's a school of dolphin just below the sun. As I stood there waiting for the sun at the Gulf Coast water's edge, it seemed as if time itself was taking a breather and standing still. The new day was lined up and ready to begin, much like a parade that's all in place and set to go, but the starting whistle has yet to be blown. It was so quiet that morning while we waited. What few waves to be seen were tiny and mostly silent. A few pelicans glided along the coastline, but they were just as quiet. The smaller, noisier birds had yet to make their appearance. Even the ever present gulf winds seemed to be on hold. It felt as if I was standing in a frozen moment of time. And it seemed to last for hours! And then suddenly, just as I was beginning to wonder if indeed the earth was still spinning, a deep orange line popped on the water's horizon. It instantly appeared! And immediately you could actually see it rise and grow. Within only a few seconds you could clearly see it was the upper portion of a huge, glowing orange fireball of light. And then the whistle sounded and the parade began! Those noisy smaller birds suddenly appeared out of nowhere dancing on the surf line seeking their morning sustenance. The pelicans started diving into the surf, the wind picked up, and there was a warm orange glow cast over everything. Such a marvelous transformation! A new day begins! And this happens every morning, although far too few of us get to experience it. So if you ever can, please do so! marshall
