La dernière carte du cosmos indique une fois de plus que la matière sombre et l'énergie sombre domine notre univers. Le Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) est en train de mesurer les distances de plus d'un million de galaxies. Les galaxies identifiées préalablement sur des images en 2D, voient leur distance déterminée pour créer une carte en 3D. Le SDSS contient actuellement des informations en 3D sur plus de 200 000 galaxies, rivalisant maintenant avec la carte du ciel de deux degrés de champ. La dernière carte du SDSS, montre la distribution de galaxies en fonction d'une certaine composition et évolution.
