Description

Morning all :o) The birds obviously love these berries as thats what I think has been nibbling at these .This shrub is against my fence at the back and is brimming with these red berries .I grow it mainly as a deterrent against anyone trying to get over the fence ,as it has very long needle like thorns that can do a lot of damage . Thanks for taking the time to look and take care :o) Mick

It's a shame we need deterrents like these Mick, I have gripper rod nailed to the top rung on the fence. If they grab hold to climb over they get their fingers ripped off. I have been burgled once and lost a lot of sentimental stuff like my dads silver pocket watch, and my mothers rings. It cost the insurence £8,000 ponds, mainly because they had ripped out the patio doors that had only been in four months but you don't get anything for sentiment. Nice capture mate, I willl have to plant some of this myself, the gripper rod has started to break up, its only cheap ply after all. Excellent work.

Nice close shot Mick these berries are everywhere this time of year. I don't know if they are the same as the trees planted by the council in our town centre but maybe 3 or 4 years ago I walked past a group of "Twitchers" if Ive got the right name there lol. People with binnoculars, I asked what they were all watching out for. They said Waxwings who love the berries but didn't always show every year.

Looks like they have been feasting on them Mick. This plant sounds like just what I need for a side fence to prevent climbers

Great shot of these popular berries -- the birds love mine, there's a whole flock living in the bush. Never thought of using them as a barrier, good idea!

I like this shot Mick, the red berries look great against the greens, easy to see why we use these colours for Christmas, nice work mate.

Great foto, don't the birds get drunk on the berries as well? I know the ones around here eat the blackberries after they've gotten overripe and they're always flying into my big window!! That's a sound that'll get your heart rate up!

fine shot...and we have those over here too, they are grown exactly because of your reasons, to keep people out. I used to have them when I lived in Germany, but if you have to do the garden, to cut those things is just a pest...lol... you should have seen my hands and arms...lol
