A stormy night indeed. Bretton Woods' days are numbered. Sarkozy, as Putin well knows, is a slippery character but not at all stupid. Indeed, his slipperiness is directly proportional to the amount of worthless American paper blowing in the wind of the the world currency systems. The Russians have decided to be Europeans if the Europeans themselves decide to become more than clients of the bankrupt Americans. At any rate, it has been settled now at least that Georgia engineered the sneak attack on Osetia and the Russian peacekeepers there, and Sarkozy is trying to take credit for the fact that Saakashvili still has a use for his fly. Meanwhile, the corpse of NATO blunders around Afghanistan looking for 1842. The Chinese are playing their cards close to their vest. With almost two trillion in reserves, most of it USD, whichever way they jump, and with them Japan and Taiwan, is which way the wind will blow.
