Description

This gives some idea of what the folks in Southern California have been facing for the last several days....this was taken in August of this year while on a motorcyle trip..it was burning in the Toiyabe National forest off of Hwy 108 east and north of the Sonora Pass in No. California...the pass itself is at 9624 feet and not long after we came over it we could see the smoke...have a lot of other shots of this thing...quite humbling when seen up close..there was a fleet of helicopters dropping water but did not see anybody on the ground going up to it...several are shown in the image... Zoom in for detail

I've been through a wildfire in Tennessee, few years ago... of course it was much smaller than californian ones, but it wasn't under control at that moment. Excellent capture, thanks for sharing!

I feel so bad for those people. Having gone through similar wildfires raging all around us here in the upper valley, I can easily feel the fear and sorrow of those in the southern part of the state. This is a stellar shot of this year's northern state fires.

Wonderful picture. The helicopters and their "buckets" look tiny compared to the roaring flames. Thanks for giving us an idea of what a wild fire looks like up close. Bill

Fantastic foto of the smoke and helicopters doing their thing. Yessiree, exactly like what we're having down here in good old drought-stricken Southern California. The billowing smoke was really black last Saturday. Which reminds me, I have to go out tomorrow and sweep up the ashes that came drifting into my patio. And I did remember to close my windows.

ohoh scary indeed, I luckily never have been near a fire like this, but my sis in Adelaide just came home with her newborn child and on the same day her neighbour made hey and the machine overheated and the whole stuff cought fire. The wind blew her direction and is was really coming up fast to her house starting just 100 m away, but luckily they had 4 flying firefighters coming in fast and putting it out before it reached her house.
