Description

Known as Broomhead of Crichie this is all that remains of a massive ritual site.Three standing stones and the earth henge bank. Up to the early 19th century an avenue of 72 stones led to the henge from the South and there are stories about a North avenue existing. You can see from this aerial view how newer developments have changed the area removing evidence. The Avenue of stones disappeared under the houses and roads.Thats the A96 to the top of the pic and Aberdeen is nearby to the East.

Your photograph clearly points out the short-sightedness of man. It has always bothered me that "modern" man has so little respect for the ways and the accomplishments of ancient man. Good shot. Appreciate you sharing it with us.

Time for those ancient stones to yield to progress. I am surprised by what is missing even here in America since I saw things as a boy.

Love the shapes and angles. I think it's a pity the old was swept away to make room for ugly living boxes and roads.

Good picture and story, it sparks the imagination. Sounds like the beginning to a Stephen King novel... building so close to an ancient ceremonial site, you know, an unsuspecting couple and their young kids move into a new house in a new development...
