Description

I've had this abalone shell for years; it's starting to fall apart. It sits in a pot with all kinds of plants, but this shot makes it look like it's back at home-underwater.

It DOES look like it's under water! I'd ask you how you did that, but ...

The abalone is an endangered species now. Once it was pried off rocks with tire iorns by skin divers seeking a little cash. The starfish did not get them all.

In a certain light, it could be an abstract painting, both physical & digital...The textures, swirls, crevices, pock-marks & furrows, etc., are all complex & beautiful—all going to prove that decay is one of nature's most beauteous gowns. I love the plants around it too. A beautiful shot, and a fav.

Excellent, the effect is so realistic, when I first opened it here, I thought it was an underwater capture, what with knowing your love of swimming and all :))...And I truly mean that, I am not just joking, I really did think it a real underwater capture..

But for the succulants I too would have thought it underwater, maybe in an aquarium or something similar. when we kept fish in the house we used to have a couple of these in the tank. Full size this is very intersting, the texture is great and the tiny perforations look almost like lace. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!

Abalone shells are fascinating, the designs inside often look like pictures on their own. This is a fabulous presentation and capture; the lighting is perfect!

I just got done putting 18 abolone shell wind chimes together. I bought several lengths of copper tubing, cut them in different sized pieces, drilled holes on one end, got some waxed hemp, and connected 3-4 copper tubes to the bottom of each shell. Then drilled holes at the other end of the shell and hung them around the outside of my gazebo. They sound so nice in the breeze and when the sun hits the inside of the shell, it is dazzling! Super shot!

It's one of those objects which just keeps getting better with age. Cool way you have portrayed it, too.
