Description

About a year ago. Moscow. On the way home from Shanghai. Don't remember the name of this cafe but I was there alone. Except the water pipe in the window...hence the title. Thank you for viewing and commenting on my "till next time". Have a great weekend. Nikolay

Nikolais, I'm almost afraid to ask...is the water pipe just around the corner out of sight? Except for my lack of knowing what I am looking for to fit the title, the image is wonderful in B&W. Shadows and contrast are perfect for this scene. Help relieve my blindness... :-) Bill

you posted several abstract-manipulations, and now you show us (again) how you capture abstraction in photography itself. It's all in the lights & darks, the bold swaths of dark & the way they make silhouettes of the simplest objects (tables, sills, etc.) and make them feel like 'portraits'...And you capture those rich living grays again too. It's the kind of photograph that is photography to a Tee, a moment caught in time; and your light & dark is exquisite. Oh, and you know I never say this but your framing is always sensitive to your photo: The gray here sets off the photo quite delicately.

I have a lot of catching up to do, but i'm glad to get back into the swing of things with a good view of this photograph. As with many of your other works, you capture an almost Zen-like elegance and beauty. I love the sense of minimalism here, all of the drama, tension, excitement, and interaction between the light/dark elements of the photo. This is superb, as always!
