Description

I just don't know what kind, I've never seen the animal before, but there were dozen's around this lantern I photographed these two on, so there's a chance I might encounter them again at some point. It seems like a cricket, but also like a mosquito and a fly, maybe someone knows the name of this one? Good day all, and many thanks for all your comments and fav's, Thom

besides the obvious wonderful lighting, the two views offer a great study of this insect. Stellar clarity.

Wonderful macros! It just might be a kind of Robber fly, that's a starting point at least.

I don't know either what they are, but I do know the light in this shot is just amazing...especially in the left one with the wings making a colorful shadow on the wall

Update: the species is : Rhagio scolopaceus, or snipe fly in English, in Dutch it's called 'snipvlieg'. Thx to the durleybeachbum ;-) for bringing up the 'robber fly'.

Wow! Awesome macros! So crisp and so clear. I particularily like the view with the light through the wings, and the shadow! Stunning. Those two shots make an excellent study as MrsLubner mentioned!
