Description
My favorite NASA mission. It launched when I was still in grade school, and that was back when people didn't take a NASA project as an everyday occurrence. It was still a big deal to most people. This one in particular - it was the one carrying the golden record with messages, sounds, and images just in case an alien life form came in contact with it one day.
Good old Voyager.
The planets aren't to scale, I know. Just playing around with planet texture maps I found somehwere and the Voyager 3DS model available for free on the NASA website.
(The model didn't import correctly into Poser - I did Voyager using Photoshop CS3. Thank God it can import 3D models.)

if I remember right, one or both have or are about to leave the solar system by now.

That's right. One of them is on the edge of the heliosphere. Their 5 year mission got extended and it's still going. It's been about 31 years now. They happily exceeded their "battery life" by just a wee bit. Voyager 1 is the farthest man made object from Earth. Still sending back data after all these years, can you believe it? Wild. I'm no Trekkie by any means, but no Voyager post would be complete without: "Why have the carbon units not responded to VGER?"

A most splendid render and reminder of an amazing explorer and of the possible future to come? Superb!

Excellent tribute. The Sun effect is quite efective too.
