Description
ANÉMONES ET MÉDUSES
Texte et recherche de Tristan Léonard,
revue LA PLONGÉE
Volume 9, No. 6, Juin 1982

ANEMONES AND JELLYFISHES
Text and search for Tristan Léonard,

JELLYFISHES:
Nearest relatives to the anemones, the jellyfishes have a bad reputation. Some reproaches them the cuisante "burns" their tentacles, a,d others to fill up and to break the nets, several to destroy the types of planktons which ensure of good fishings.
Admittedly these cnidaires ("animals which prick") are equipped with nématocystes (irritant cells) which injects toxins, but rare are those which can obstruct the human being.
Let us establish of access which the majority of the Québécois jellyfishes are very small (6 only would exceed 10 cm) and inoffensive.
elsewhere much of plungers confuse them with plankton. Formed to 95% d' water, they breathe through their skin and some (aurélie), through the wall of l' stomach. They reproduce in 6 stages. The adult jellyfish is equipped with reproductive glands (gonades) where eggs develop. Once released, these eggs become planules (planutas), larvae which swim thanks to cilia.
Those end up being fixed and form polyps (resembling hydres), which will bud and form in their turn of the small wandering jellyfishes. DANGEROUS JELLYFISHES
GALÈRE or PHYSALIA Portuguese man-of-war (Physalia ground cherry)
jusqu' to 30 cm RARE out of Bay of Fundy only SERIOUS: Linear or dispersed urticaria Ganglionic pains Muscles and joints endoloris Headaches - hysteria Fever and shiver - Cramps and nausea

Interesting and artistic, Claude!
