Description

I was heading out for a nice long stroll...when this huge dark ominous cloud was rolling in...a little to intimidating to stay out with just a light jacket.................... RUN FOR COVER!!! Within minutes it poured

Discretion, and a quick pair of heels, have always been the better part of valour, Kathleen ;O) I dodged the clouds a few times, this past week. Sometimes when out on the beat, on foot patrol, one just got soaked, since there was no nearby cover. On one occasion, returning to the police office for my 'piece' ( packed meal ), my old sergeant drolly commented that I must have been standing under a 'roan pipe' ( water down pipe from a roof's gutters ) seeing as how I squelched when I walked, leaving a trail of mini-puddles behind me as I entered the nice, warm, dry office. The next night, my 'neighbour' ( police partner ) and I left a cannonball shaped iron roof finial, on the sergeant's desk. The heavy ball had fallen down during the gale / storm, in which we which had been checking the security of our town's buildings and commercial property. It struck the pavement at our feet, nearly 'crowning' us. As we say over here, "Near thing don't count..". On returning to the office we entered this item into the 'Found Property' book, with only a smudged explanation of where it had come from. Unfortunately, one of our colleagues, on the opposite shift / roster, made up a rather scurrilous ditty about the sergeant's 'third sphere'... Warm regards, John.
