Actually, I think the previous version was easier to read. Maybe your enhancements went a bit too far? Seems to me 1/2 between the 2 would be about right. In particular, the pistol is now lost in the highlights of her arm and the shape of it is less clear because of the foreshortning and angle the pistol is pointing at. I like that the lighting is more contrasty and dramatic, but the readability has to also be preserved. Perhaps if the monster where a bit highr, so her head wasn't directly in front of its mouth? That would help "unconfuse" her head. The monster's shadow is great, but wouldn't it say more if her shadow also showed?
