UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

This is awsome. I love the idea of comparing the two photos. It gives one a good sense of how things change over time. Kudos.

Cool idea. Good shot and presentation.

Wonderful shot and comparison. The old General does not appear to have aged much over the years. Cheers Skipper62

He and Custer were both sacked and courtmarshalled for not being able to get the Confederates to accept discipline and join up with the regular army. Seems PR was #1 in the 1860's.

Great concept, Bill.

Concept works fine! Amazing how on the new photo, the base looks newer and the statue looks older. Obviously didn't clean the statue at any time. A great idea. Rob.

I don't know about better as you've done a fantastic job of this already Bill. I too like the old/new photo look of postcards and have several books that compare sites and roads of the city I live in from the 1900's and today. Keep up the fine work on these.

Wow, really cool idea love the side by side views!!

I was thinking the same thing today whilst taking pictures of churches. I was going to do one church through the seasons (pity I've just missed Autumn lol). Your photo is superb. I particularly like the rich greens and the contrast between the old postcard and your photo is superb and really shows how much things change/stay the same over time. Excellent work!

Great picture! I like the history also. Fascinating to see the then and now.

Intriguing concept contrasting the old with the new, Bill. By the title I thought you were referring to one of my classic car photos. From what I understand, General Grant was somewhat of a tippler. And, Groucho Marx used to ask his tv contest participants, "Who's buried in Grant's Tomb?"

Very nice work and the idea of the pictures side by side. Most excellent. Aloha

I like this idea very much Bill, perhaps we may get to see more of your postcard collection for an upload in the near future?
