You really put the "depth" in "depth of field". The angle and focus make the snake's alertness the dominant feeling in the scene, and your use of its surroundings (and other snake) in the composition gets the point across that this is their world and we're seeing it from their perspective. You should make a nature documentary -- if you can get this much character into a single shot, imagine what you could do with a couple of hours of film.
