Born in 1969, in Croatia, and grew up on beautiful Croatian coast. I came to Southern California at 18 years old and have lived there ever since.
By profession, I'm a Civil Engineer and a Land Surveyor, by instinct, some sort of a neurotic arteest type. Putting those two together, now I do scientific 3D visualizations related to Engineering. Yesterday I was just an Engineer, now I are a Director of Data Visualizations - hehe, a mouthfull.
My mom taught me most of the art theory I know, with her being an architect and a decent illustrator. After crunching dull numbers at work, I like to do something simpler and more colorful and freeform for fun, but still in 3D.
And I suck at writing something good and clever about myself.

Reminds me of a very bright summer day. the type of day that forces one inside a malt shop to cool off til nightfall

One of the best lighting jobs on this scene I have seen!!!
evinrude
Great job. It looks somewhat off only as compared to the sky. You've got a lot of grey tones in the bottom half. The light is very bright, but not overexposed. However, the sky is too dark. I recommend going into your scene settings, into realistic sky, and ramping up global brightness to about 110% or 120%.

Not bad. DPH

Oooh, which building set is that? Lighting and shadows can make or break a scene... Also, go into your sunlight - effects tab, and enable soft shadows. Set to a value of aprox 19ft or 600cm if you havn't already. the default value for soft shadows is the same across all light types. Can also try ramping up Skylight to 185-200% in the render tab... The atmosphere gives of 'blue light' so shadows usually have a blueish colouration to them. It'll look more realistic. Try this in addition to what evinrude said about the atmosphere global brightness. I've been struggling to get that realistic photograph look also...

Your lighting is looking great to me, fine job

Reminds me of a friend's photo in which a bright sunlit foreground (a school) was backed up by an almost black stormy sky. I think it's great the way it is . . . shadows could be softened slightly . . . (I'm trying).

Looks great to me. A bright day probably around 1 or 2.

Must be doing something right I mistook it for a photograph at first look. Shadows can be tricky, since depending on time of day and atmosheric conditions, and so on, they can be very soft or very harsh. I always try to make my shadows fit/enhance the mood I am going for rather than try to achieve total realism.

Looks good, but I'd also suggest you check your ambient light. For realism, I personally don't like to go higher than 4-5%.

I've had Carrara for months and have never done anything with it. You have inspired me. And where did those buildings and textures come from? Did you make them from scratch?
Conniekat8
For those of you whom are asking, the buildings are from Stonemason's urban sprawl.
marcopolinski
wow ... excellent lighting! Totally realistic!

There is a ominous ambience in this one, like you would expect a Zombie or some night mare creature to crawl out one of the No Human seen buildings...Thanks for the review of my work. Damned.mp3 - Steven P. Dargis
