I took this picture in 2001 of a garden we found at a friends house in Kenya.

An amazing garden. People often think Africa is so barren or just jungle, but it is amazing how fertile it is in places and that great for producing crops and plants.

the Kenyan gardens are very practical as well as beautiful. They use the marigolds and other plants to stave off the insects as well as add color. On the slopes of Mt. Kenya, being an extint volcano are some of the most fertal soils in the world. Also being at the equator and at a good elevation of over a mile high, with two good rainy seasons they can grow two sets of crops.
