Description

The ruins of the Roman Theatre are located below the Medieval Wall surrounding the City of Volterra, Tuscany. The construction of the Roman Theatre began in the 1st century B.C., and the Roman Baths, located behind the Theatre, were built in the 4th century A.D. During the Medieval period the area was used as a rubbish dump completely burying the Roman Theatre and Baths until excavationby began in 1951 by the Volterran archeologist Enrico Fiumi. This picture was taken in July 1997 and later scanned. Thank you for viewing and commenting on my uploads, Sig....
