Description

First of all: Thank you so very much for all your comments on my past digital paintings :) You make it worth while trying. As I'm uploading this I'm browsing through your galleries since today is a slacker day :p At least for me it is...right now. And thank you for all the favorites. I'm glad you enjoy this enough to actually save my images for later :) Anyways....above is Hugh Laurie, our good ol Doctor House. The photo I used as a preference was in colour, but because black & white will show more contrast in a different way, I decided to stay away from the colour this time. His face has a lot of character and unfortunately a lot of that disappeared in the colour version. A bit technical stuff: The eyes I do in layers, some of those layers are brighter, some are fuzzy and so on. The background that the face was painted on is actually a mix of light brown, green and blue. Since I'm a traditional artist I paint using my Wacom and Photoshop in the same way as I would do in oil, and having an underpainting in colour makes the black and white less flat. What is not included is a lot of fine lines in his face. I had way too much mulled wine last night when I finished this...and my partner kept writing on his laptop (read banging on his laptop :p) so my desk was literally jumping here...hehe Neither of those makes for painting thin lines. And I'm not 100% happy about the wrinkles either..but oh well. Can't have it all. Thanks for peeking in :D Now I'm going back to your galleries. I'm so hopelessly behind. Christa

I think the concentration on the eyes is a good thing here, your partner should get some credit i suppose, quite like this, has the look of pencil. The poor word 'render', before digital it meant: draw, depict, portray et cetera; painting doesn't use paint and, oh well, things change, the middle can't hold - but i babble. Very cool work, he has an interesting face, you've captured it well. TATA
