The way that relations between the Matriarchy and New Scandinavia were transformed so quickly from open warfare to genuine friendship baffles most of the rest of the galaxy, but it's easily explained. At the Battle of Nexus Rameses, Regent Tara's wildly unorthodox tactics, combined with the heroism of her fleet, inflicted an unprecedented defeat upon the NSN. Dozens of NSN starships leaked survival pods by the hundred into space. The conventional follow-up to such a crushing victory would have involved chasing the surviving starships and leaving the pods to their own devices. Tara, instead, called off the pursuit of the defeated New Scandinavian Navy and detailed every asset she had to the rescue of the evacuation pods. Millions of New Scandinavians thank Tara for the safe return of their loved ones. Tara's younger sister, the Princess Artemisia, didn't fight in the war, but NSN officers have subsequently encountered her as a very talented junior officer in the peacetime Matriarchal Navy. She does stand in for her older sister at state occasions, never, to date, putting a foot wrong. Several very popular female New Scandinavian holostars get their fangs out, every time Artemisia's name is mentioned, because Artemisia's holos are downloaded by NS adolescents approximately five times as often as those of any starlet.
