Description
This view is from Puu Ulaula Overlook of the caldera of Haleakala Volcano (10,023-ft) on Maui, Hawaii. The volcano is considered to be active. It was assumed to have erupted as recently as 1790, but newly obtained radiocarbon dating suggests the most recent eruption to have occurred sometime between 1480 to 1600 A.D.
From this point on this clear morning we could see Mauna Kea (13,796-ft.) and Mauna Loa (13,677-ft.) on the Big Island about 90 miles distance to the Southeast.
This picture was taken in May 1986 and later scanned.

Such a beautiful dedi for Stella. I too have never been on the island of Maui to see this Haleakala volcano. Even from flying over head that we can't see what you see here. Maybe one day I'll visit Maui and visit Haleakala in search of your foot prints. Most excellent capture. Aloha
