Description

Ok I've driven past this ship so many times and thought it looked interesting, and on the way up to Gleneagles a couple of weekends ago I decided it was time to stop and take a photo. The ship is the RRS Discovery, anchored in Dundee. (From Wikipedia) RRS Discovery was the last wooden three-masted ship to be built in Britain, and was launched on 21 March 1901, designed for Antarctic research. Her first mission was the British National Antarctic Expedition, carrying Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their first, successful journey to the Antarctic, known as the Discovery Expedition. More info here. In the background you can see the Tay road bridge. The shot was taken at sunset, and I used a polarizer filter which gives the deep transition across the sky. Not really a sensational shot I feel but I've wanted to do this one for a while and it's cleansing to get a bit closer to being up to date with editing recent pics (though probably I'll still be posting ones from France in a year's time!) oh... and spot the moon =) Adam

Oh, she is a beauty Adam. Glad you took the time to capture her (magnificently) and share her with us. These old sail ships have a certain romanticism to them... :)

hehehe ok well I guess I can only comment here once so I'll have to let the cat out of the bag... just below the fourth horizontal mast from the top, on the right, just above and to the left of the tip of the flagpole.. =)

What a beautiful restored ship, Adam! A fabulous capture by you, with excellent clarity and detail, but for this elusive moon I've failed to spot :-) Thank you for the link to more information, it's very interesting.
