Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Looks permanent. Is there a brass bench mark nearby?
THROBBE
Great composition! I'd feel a little weird if I were sitting there and that canon was pointing to the back of my head! LOL! Great work and dedication Bill!

For Tallpindo. This is a permanent display piece. Fort Leavenworth had an arsenal as part of its' operation in the mid 1800s and collected old muzzle loaders from all over...there's even a couple of old, ornate Spanish canon that date back to the 1600s or early 1700s that nobody knows where they came from. Elevation bench mark nearby indicates 896 feet above sea level. Bill

I was just thinking that you could get your head blown to kingdom come while sitting on the bench... then I read your narrative. LOL... This is a stunning POV and image Bill. The snow makes it so special. Denise will love it! :)

Great "shot". Canon hasn't gone off in over 200 years you say... Let's see..potassium nitrate, sulphur, charcoal commonly called gun powder has a tendency to increase in strength over time..therefore a small amount in the gun 200 years old.....Denise, sit someplace else. Cheers, Skipper

Oh, it only looks dangerous if you're tall, and I'm not...:p Great capture, love the icy river and the snowy fields...nice one!

Nice scene, Bill. The zoom-in does improve this pic.

Would certainly make the ears ring. Nice scenic capture.

Beautiful shot!!! My congratulations!!!!!!! I want a Merry Christmas and a new year full with blessings for you!! Roby

Really stark dark objects and flora contrasted against the snow in this fine capture, Bill! I think it's about time the cannon was awakened from its slumber and used again, at least on the 4th of July during the orchestral playing of The War of 1812.

A fine picture, but it looks like a cold seat.

I don't think she'll ever sit on that bench knowing there's a cannon behind her! Excellent shot, well seen!
GiMi53
Well seen & captured + a very nice dedi for the "Bench lady"... :~)

LMAO The placement of the bench is just so... cynical. Excellent-- the snow really adds to the impact of the relationship between the cannon and the bench.

Wonderful composition Bill. What is the date on the bench mark?
auntietk

Splendid snowy scene and dedi, wonderful capture!!:-)

Well, i'm not the only one to question the position of the cannon. 200 years you say, well we'll take your word for it :) Excellent winter capture Bill and one that's making me shiver a little.

Great view, bill! Though, you would have to keep your head low....in times of emergency, like! Rob.

Hi Bill.Great Winter scenes, don't know if it's global warming or the huge oil refinery up river but we have not had any good amount of snow round here for decades.I really love snow (fresh) but I think the last photos I got where taken in Wales about 3 years ago.(used for backgrounds in some of my early posts). These are much appreciated. Given how long the cannon have been there, someone obviously sited the bench with either a 'great deal' or 'no' thought depending on their sense of humour. Thanks again...Neil

Nice winter shot, Bill.

COOL! Shot!

a cool shot, Bill, but still gets me wondering about those who put the bench right in front of the cannon...lol
