Beautiful picture of a wonderful mutualism between these gorgeous creatures. This type of relationship is more common in nature than people realize. Thanks for posting this very meaningful picture Toby. :)

This mutualism exists all over the place. I have video of a hammerhead shark cleaning station in the Galapagos, shot on one of my dives there. Hammerheads are quite skittery, and they hate the sound of diver's bubbles, so it is necessary to plant yourself with a rock about 15 meters down and wait silently for them to appear. By fortunate accident, I was right in front of a cleaning station manned by cleaner fish. It was pretty awesome to see those wonderfully grotesque 2-3 meter beasts glide in silently at idle while a bevy of little helpers rushed to clean them from gills to tail, then move on, as the little guys rushed over to the next shark in line. Actually it reminded me of nothing so much as pulling in to a gas station in the Fifties: Three attendants in uniform with bowties would rush out--one to clean the windshield, one to check the tires and under the hood, and one to pump the ethyl gas (refined from Texas crude) at 24 2/3 cents a gallon. Free maps and wildflower seeds and not a carbon footprint in sight ;-)

an amazing photographic moment. I love how still the gazelle looks, like he's waiting patiently for the bird to finish. Love this shot, very clear and very well done. Beautiful.
