Description
The Novaslayers are an interspecies organization that has existed for thousands of years. They recruit exceptional and powerful members of sentient species into their ranks. They believe that complete and total self interest, to the exclusion of all else, is the key to advancement and power. They have little regard for life, except for their own. And their unity as a group is entirely based on how they personally can benefit from their alliances. Such alliances are often quickly, and violently, dissolved, when one believes they can attain a personal advantage.
These beings, which have begun to include humans, amass tremendous power, and Novaslayer ships, fleets and weapons incorporate ancient technologies that are jealously guarded. Fortunately, most common human technology is of little interest, and they rarely desire being in control of large populations. However, one gets between a Novaslayer and ancient technologies of power at their own peril.

Let's hear it for enlightened self-interest then. True self-interest can be the most binding element of any relationship--personal, corporate, national, social or whatever. I tend to distrust any altruistic effort that doesn't have some element of self-interest in it. Otherwise, it is going to do more hurt than good. As for unenlightened self-interest, we have exhibit A: the last eight years under the Bush administration. If Obama is going to get us anywhere, he is going to have to tap that enlightened self-interest in all of us to turn our country around. Well, I'm ranting. Sorry. Interesting picture. I especially like those row of windows with the Universe outside them.
