Description

A couple days ago I had a contest of guess the artists... I promised who ever won I'd do any picture they wanted (as long as it stayed within rendo's rules)... ...Chris, efron_241 supplied the right answers... He contacted me today and wanted a picture of Denver's Oldest building... I have no Idea what is the oldest building, but I did plan on going down and seeing the lights on the Civic Center Building. It is a tradition here in Colorado to light this building up every Christmas season. - It's been that way before I was born. I believe this building is 150 years old... As far as getting older than that? Hah! Denver became part of the US in 1876.... Advanced as the world is today, it is hard to believe how Young The United States is. So this is for Chris... I got another one coming for you soon but I'll pobably wait til 150th upload.

it is beautiful. recall not so long ago that frivolous lighting was shunned because of an "electrical shortage? just a way for the companies to raise the price.has anyone noticed that their electric bill has decrease per kilowatt with the lowering of crude? I have not

Great job on this Mike and congrats to Chris for guessing everyone right. Really great looking Civic Center in Denver and I bet it's about as old as anything around it.

Very pretty lights my friend, but what a rip for old Chris, efron_241,,,he/she wins the contest but gets something other than his/her request. Google could have told you... FOUR MILE HOUSE. 5000 E. Exposition Ave., (East Denver) Denver's oldest extant building. ... From Denver's Landmarks and Historic Districts: A Pictorial Review, ...www.denvergov.org/AboutDenver/today_landmarks_fourmile.asp I know you would not cut and paste the building from the above link as that would be really cheating. I guess you could refer Chris to the link, but I am sure Chris was hoping for more....grin

Wow, this is a great collage of the lights of Denver, wonderfully festive. I think the oldest building in Denver is the "Four Mile House" on I think Latimer Street. It was build in 1859 I think and survived the Denver fire. It was a Way Station for travelers. Now, is that useless trivia or what? lol Excellent work.

thanks HAVECANCER for the link... I'll have to check it out... If you ask people here what their favorite building is here for the Holidays, I'm sure this would be the building most people would pick. It's a big deal in Denver when the lights get lit.... To us, It's like that lit ball that drops in New York every year - you just gotta see it.

Gwen might tag some of the people who did not answer.. but just commented without reading.. that will make them surprised.. to see their image and wonder.. What did I miss because I did not read.. ha ha keep the game alive Mike.. do the unexpected that's us. and of course I want to see the building Delbeke mentions :D ha ha you could EXPECT that one. Still I am almost in tears because of the beauty of this building..

Now that's what I call decorations! I'd hate to see the power bill. Nice to see that some citys will go all out, in this dump we're lucky to see 1 in 20 residences decorated and I live in the Bible belt. Nice photos, thanks for sharing!
